Alpha Joy Circle News
Alpha Joy Circle met on January 14, 2010 at 9:00. Betty Arnold and Mildred Conard were the hostesses. Loretta Davis gave the prayer. There were nine members present.
President Karen Van Sickle introduced our speaker, Randy Sharp, Director of Operations for InterServ at the Calvin Center. InterServ is available to help seniors in so many areas. This past year around 85,000 meals were served. Mr. Sharp said people living alone might look into the Life Line that can be made available through InterServ in case of falls or break ins. This can be purchased at a reasonable cost.
Karen Van Sickle called our business meeting to order by repeating The Purpose of the United Methodist Women and The Great Commission. Mildred Conard, secretary, read the minutes of December meeting. A correction was made on the date of the meeting. Billie Charboneau, treasurer of Alpha Joy Circle / U.M.W. gave a balance of $377.96. The Alpha Joy Circle gave $265.43 to Hyde Valley United Methodist Church in December. The United Methodist Women gave $600.00 in December to the church.
“Thank yous” were read from Bethany George, Irabelle Albright and Georgia Casebolt’s Family. “Get-Well” cards and “Thinking of You” cards were sent around to be signed and sent to our shut ins.
Karen asked that we plan to stay after the February meeting for a short business meeting. New Business was discussed and planning has begun for our activities for the 2010 year. These are the proposals that we are thinking about:
January 31st - 5th Sunday Dinner
March 7th / September 19th - Bakeless Bake Sale
Blanket Sunday to be chosen at a later date.
June 6th - Alpha Joy Recognition Sunday
August 29th - Beef Burger Dinner
October 31st - 5th Sunday Dinner
The February meeting will be February 11th at 9:00 with Loretta Davis and Betty Arnold as hostesses. Emma Jo Windsor will be in charge of the program and Loretta Davis will give the Response.
Karen lead us in repeating The Benediction as a closing.
