The following policy has been established to help promote the true meaning of marriage and assist in coordinating the wedding with the overall ministry schedule.
Non-members: Our church facilities are intended for the use of our church membership. On occasions, however, it may be possible for non-members to be married at the Hyde Valley church. Exceptions will be considered on an individual basis, requiring approval of the pastoral staff and the Board of Trustees.
Reservations:
Application must be made to the church office by completing the attached application form. Your request will be submitted to the minister for consideration. Approval is considered final only after receiving confirmation from the pastor.
Room set-up:
The bride and groom are responsible for setting up of rooms for wedding events. They are also responsible for resetting the room for the next scheduled event.
Ceremony:
| The Hyde Valley United Methodist Church has adopted the marriage policy of the Interfaith Alliance of Greater St. Joseph, which requires a minimal waiting period of four months from the time of initial contact (by the couple to be married) to the date of the wedding. The policy requires at least one pre-marriage session with the clergy who is to perform the ceremony. The clergy may require more sessions if it is deemed necessary for the health of the marriage. | |
| Minister It is assumed that minister of Hyde Valley UMC will perform the ceremony. If the bride or groom desires to have their own pastor officiate, they must obtain approval from Hyde Valleys pastoral staff and/or the board of Trustees well in advance of the ceremony. |
| Order of Ceremony The exact order of the ceremony should be arranged with the officiating pastor and finalized in the last counseling session prior to rehearsal. | |
| Music Musical selections and musicians must reflect the musical philosophy of our church. All music and musicians must be approved well in advance by the officiating pastor. It is expected that musicians will be professing Christians living their lives for the Lord. |
| Photography/Video-graphy Photographers and video-graphers should be as unobtrusive as possible. Any questions regarding procedure should be directed to the pastor. |
| Decorations The bride and groom are responsible for the installation and removal of all decorations. Times for decorating must be scheduled in advance with the church office. Only drip less or no-wax candles should be used. Care must be taken to protect surfaces from wax (even "drip less" candles can drip) and from water (from floral arrangements). |
Reception:
| No smoking or alcoholic beverages are permitted in our facility. | |
| If a professional caterer is used, caterer must agree to cover any and all damages to facilities or supply equipment. The bride and groom are responsible for covering all damages if the caterer does not care for them. | |
| There are 2 Fellowship Halls that may be used for receptions. Please inform the minister as to which if any of the Fellowship Halls you plan to use. |
Financial Arrangements:
| Please do not send money with the application. You will be notified which fees will apply when your reservation is confirmed. | |
| Damage It is understood that the wedding party takes responsibility for church property, agreeing to pay for any damages. |
Clean-up Guidelines
In planning your wedding, please designate help ahead of time. It is the responsibility of the wedding party to see that:
| All decorations and wedding items are removed from the platform and rooms before leaving. | |
| Trash should be removed and placed in the dumpster located | |
| Tables and chairs must be set up for the next scheduled event (or returned to storage) by the user. | |
| If other rooms are used (i.e. as dressing rooms or nursery), please make sure they are left clean. | |
| Restrooms are located on each level of the church. They must be left in the order they were found. |
The church is reserved for the date agreed upon by the party to be married and the minister when a reservation deposit of $100.00 is made. The balance of the fees must be paid in addition to a damage deposit of $100, 14 days prior to the wedding date. The damage deposit of $100 will be refunded one week after the ceremony provided there is no damage found in the inspection by the Trustees.
